Christina Romer

Christina Romer, a 1981 alumna, delivered the commencement address to the College of William & Mary's class of 2010. Christina Romer attended the College of William & Mary from 1978 to 1981, when she was still known by her maiden Duckworth. Ms. Duckworth completed an Honor's thesis entitled The Portfolio Effects of Fiscal Policy in addition to an economics undergraduate degree in 1981. She continued her education at M.I.T. where her research on the turbulent economy of the 1930s and 1940s earned her a Ph.D. Before working for the national government, Romer taught economics at UC Berkeley.

In 2008, Christina Romer was appointed to chair the Council of Economic Advisers under the Obama administration. Despite her busy schedule she still retains a strong connection to her first alma mater. She returned to William & Mary in 2009 to and delivered a lecture on the recent financial crisis. In May 2010, she delivered the commencement address to the graduating class and received an honorary degree from the College.
