Jacquelyn Y. McLendon is a professor of English and Africana Studies at William & Mary, and was associate chair of the Department of English from 1995-2001, in addition to being the first director of the Black Studies Program. She recieved her B.A. from Temple University and both her M.A. and Ph.D. from Case Western University. Her academic interests include "Twentieth-century African American literature, especially literature of the Harlem Renaissance and women's literature; Black British literature"
