A notable figure in the field of education, Kremer Jacob Hoke worked to improve funding for schools as well as relationships between schools and communities. Hoke was a professor of Education at William & Mary from 1920 until 1944 and Dean of Summer School from 1938 until 1943. He also served as Dean of the College from 1922 until 1934 and the School of Education from 1934 until 1938.
Dean Kremer J. Hoke assumed the duties of the president when Chandler's health was in decline beginning in the summer of 1933 until he was well enough to resume his position as President. Hoke then reassumed the duties of President in early 1934, once again due to Chandler's declining health. After Chandler's death on May 31st, 1934, Hoke became the interim president until June 30th, 1934.
