The National Novel Writing Month Club, or "Nanowrimo Club", was founded on the campus of William & Mary in the Fall of 2008 by J.T. Fales and Rachael Tatman '12. Though not officially affiliated with the Office of Letters and Light--the non-profit organization which manages the National Novel Writing Month website 1 --the club follows the guiding principals of the organization and almost all members have an account on the Nanowrimo website. The goal of National Novel Writing Month, as set out by the Office of Letters and Light, is to write a complete 50,000 word novel in the month of November.
As of the Fall of 2011, the club is still active. In general, the club holds meetings in October to plan for Nanowrimo, a kick-off party on midnight of Halloween, weekly meetings throughout November, "write-ins" (where club members sit and work on their novels together), and a "Thank God It's Over" party on or around December 1st. In past years many, if not most, club members have completed their novels in the time limit set out.
