Harrison Holt Riddleberger (1843-1890) was a Senator from Virginia; born in Edinburg, Shenandoah County, Va., October 4, 1844; attended the common schools; served three years during the Civil War in the Confederate Army as second and first lieutenant of Infantry and as captain of Cavalry; returned to Edinburg and became editor of the Tenth Legion Banner; studied law; admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Woodstock, Va.; member, State house of delegates 1871-1875; Commonwealth attorney of Shenandoah County 1876-1880; member, State senate 1879-1882; editor of the Shenandoah Democrat and later of the Virginian at Woodstock; presidential elector on the Democratic ticket in 1876 and on the Readjuster ticket in 1880; elected as a Readjuster to the United States Senate in 1881 and served from March 4, 1883, to March 3, 1889; was not a candidate for reelection; chairman, Committee on Manufactures (Forty-eighth through Fiftieth Congresses); died in Woodstock, Va., January 24, 1890; interment in Cedarwood Cemetery, Edinburg, Shenandoah County, Va.
