John Compton Freeman attended William & Mary in 1904-1909 according to The Catalogue of Alumni. His hometown is listed as Arcola, Loudoun County and his then home was on Tilly Ave. in Jamaica, Long Island, New York in the Catalogue, which was published in 1932. A photo is in the 1909 Colonial Echo yearbook. While at William & Mary, Freeman was the Corresponding Secretary of the Philomatheon for the 1906-1907 year; Laboratory Instructor in Physics from 1907-1909; Diploma Mathematics; and Vice President of the 1909 senior class. There were two mentions of Compton in the Alumni Gazette: a photo of Compton at Alumni Days in 1946 and the other referenced that his daughter, Bette Rose Freeman, was a member of the freshman class in the Fall of 1941.
