The Senior Class Chain of Office is worn by the president of the senior class at William & Mary for official functions. At the end of the Commencement ceremony, after the last faculty member has exited the auditorium, the president of the graduating class presents the Senior Class Chain of Office to the incoming president of the senior class.
According to the August 2000 Alumni Gazette, the Olde Guarde "will help to create a new chain of office for the senior class president. This chain, worn by each senior class president during Graduation Weekend, is passed to the incoming senior class president at the conclusion of Commencement. The chain, while imposing in stature and appearance, has suffered from many years of faithful service and will be replaced with a sturdier and more impressive version."1
