The Office of Minority Student Affairs and the Office of Multicultural Affairs preceded the Center for Student Diversity at William & Mary. In Fall, 2009, this office changed its name to Center for Student Diversity.
Center for Student Diversity
"Our Mission: The Center for Student Diversity (formerly the Office of Multicultural Affairs) is a unit within the Division of Student Affairs. In alliance with the William & Mary mission, the Center for Student Diversity (CSD) strives to foster inclusion, collaboration, and relationship-building within our campus community. The Center provides academic, social, and transition support for underserved and underrepresented students and promotes exchange and dialogue between individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities. We also serve as an information center, providing training and resources to the campus and local Williamsburg community regarding multicultural and diversity topics."1
Office of Multicultural Affairs
"The Office of Multicultural Affairs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs at William & Mary. The Office has evolved from the Office of Minority Student Affairs, established in 1974 to serve African American students. The office was changed to the Office of Multicultural Affairs in order to reflect better the population it serves. The office was established to aid in the development of a more pluralistic and inviting environment for all. We are committed to providing programs, services, and promoting cultural activities that will create an awareness of and appreciation for racial and cultural diversity. The mission of the Office of Multicultural Affairs is to improve the overall quality of life for students of color on campus by developing and implementing educational, cultural, and social programs that will assist the College in recruiting, retaining, and graduating multicultural and international students. The Office is also committed to creative leadership that fosters and enriches campus diversity with a goal of promoting cultural understanding and positive relationships that support students' success."
